Day Seventeen: Jesus, the Servant of All
Making It Real
Has anyone ever served you or your family in a way that made you feel really loved? What did they do for you?
What made their act of service so meaningful? How did it make you feel?
Taking You Back
Read Luke 2:1-7. Jesus is the King of Kings, the Name above all names, the Ruler of the Universe and He was born … in a stable. A barn. A stinky, dirty, not-so-comfy shed. It’s safe to say that most of us had a nicer place to be born than Jesus — and He was divine royalty! But this was one way God showed us a very important characteristic about His Son — His humility.
While Jesus was on earth, one of the ways He showed His love to people was by serving them. Mark 10:45 tells us that Jesus didn’t come to be served, but to serve and to give His life away to others. As we model our lives after His, we’re called to do the same. When we do, others are blessed, God is glorified and our lives will be changed.
Your Thoughts
Take a few minutes to write in your journal about what you’ve learned.
• What are some of the ways Jesus served while He was on earth?
• Why do you think Jesus would call us to follow in His footsteps and serve others?
• What are some ways you could serve people in your life?
Find a way to serve someone today. A few ideas are: making dinner for your family, carrying someone’s groceries at the store or volunteering to babysit (for free) for a busy mom in your neighborhood. When you serve others, expecting nothing in return, the love of Christ shines through you. This kind of love is hard to find in today’s world, and it’s our privilege to be the hands and feet of Jesus to those around us.
From You to God
God, thank you for Jesus’ example of being a servant. He served and loved others while He was here on earth, and He showed the ultimate act of servanthood when He gave His life on the cross. I want to be a servant and show Your love to others. How do You want me to serve? Please use me. I’m Yours, Lord. Amen.
